dvd not in "my computer" and can't access

DVD player does not show up in BIOS (already tried reset to factory), and it
does not show up in "My Computer" however, I can see it and the contents of
the DVD/CD through Device Manager (no conflicts shown and enable indicated)
and through Windows Computer Management. I'm running XP on an HP Pavilion
DV5000 series notebook and I have reinstalled the OS from the recovery disks
to see if that would help and it has changed nothing. I have also deleted
the register for UPPERLIMITS and LOWERLIMITS as suggested by MS. Any
thoughts????

Chk dvd jumper pins & reset if needed,and/or connect it to another
connection.
