DVD Drive Problem

Hi
I have recently installed an aopen DVD burner on my secondary ide
channel as slave. My problem is that when i open the drawer and then
shut it ,it keeps opening again straight away and it continues in this
loop. Running Xp SP2 Sempron 3000, 1 hard drive on primary ide channel
as master, G/force 6800xt, 380W PSU, asrock K8NF4G-SATA 2. I know i'm
probably missing something simple.

Thanks in advance,

Sound like the drawer is not engaging the closed position.Had same problems
with older roms.If under warranty, take it back.

Then again, why would you have this configured as a slave with only HDD on
primary Ide master and only Dvd on sec.ide as slave?Unless you have a cdrom
or Hdd as master on sec. ide.
Remove the jumper from dvd and cable it to end of ide cable on sec. ide
channel.
Best setup is Prim.Ide=1 Hdd +1 rom or no rom.
Sec Ide=1 Hdd+ 1 rom or no Hdd.

You've got the right idea of keeping them seperate, remove the jumper and
change cable position on dvd.
Other than that, return the dvd, probably a bad plastic gear inside.

Thanks for the reply.

I neglected to mention that i have a pioneer 111 as secondary master.
The Aopen drive that I'm having the issue with came out of my old PC and
was working fine, it works fine on the new PC apart from this tray
opening problem.
I will try the configuration you mention and see if it helps, as I only
have 1 HDD in the new machine, I will take the slave HDD out of the old
machine and try what you suggested.

Anybody else got any ideas?

Easy,
Keep the pioneer as is on Sec.Ide.
Put Aopen on primary Ide as slave.
Double check jumpers.
Open the drawer on the Aopen and make sure the cover is snapped down all the
way.
Other than that, stripped or worn plastic gear inside.
Always use the button to close the tray, don't push on the tray to close. Not
saying you do but I have observed this quite often.
You can check by just applying power to it without the ide cable plugged
in.Same result?

I had that happen once upon a time and I think that was the time I wasn't paying
attention and installed a jumper on the wrong set of pins.
