me

Hi All

I have just purchased a DVD Burner.

I have the following config..

Primary Master : Hardrive
Primary Slave : Nothing
Secondary Master : DVD Burner
Secondary Slave CDRW

I know have a spare DVD rom drive which if possible i would also like to
use..

Can some suggest the correct way to configure this...

Many thanks

If you place the DVD rom on the same cable as the hard drive it will most likely slow down the hard drive because the DVD drive does not work with as fast a DMA mode as the hard drive. The best configuration would be to get a PCI ATA adapter for the hard drive and use the motherboard plug for the DVD rom drive.

just avoid putting a CD/DVD ROM drive on the same IDE channel as a HDD. I
have two Hard drives, a DVD and a CDRW. The DVD and CDRW are on the
secondary channel and the two hard drives are on the primary IDE channel.

This I believe is a good configuration for these four devices without going
the way of the PCI card for extra IDE channels.

Works fine for me no problems or slow down. CD burner is happy burnning
from all drives without buffer underruns.
