dvd decoder

now that i have installed windows xp i can't play dvds i get a dvd decoder error. help

XP doesn't support DVD play. You'll need to purchase software like PowerDVD to watch DVDs on your computer. Also, try to see if the maker of your DVD drive has software that come with it, or try thier webpage for DVD support

The XP Windows Media Player will play DVDs just fine provided you have
installed the proper codecs. No need for an expensive third party
program. Just do an internet Google search and you'll find them. I
use WMP to play my DVD movies and it works just as well as PowerDVD.

how am i suppose to figure out if i have an older decoder installed? i am assuming i did because i could play dvds before xp. also how do i figure out what software the dvd player uses?
