DVD burner problems

I love MM2 and it's ease of use. However, when I create a DVD-R (using Sonic
MyDVD LE ver. 5) it will not play on my home video player. But when I create
a DVD-RW, it will play on my video player. I tried to play the DVD-R on a
brand new Toshiba video player but it wont play there either. I'm almost
sure it is the MyDVD program which is causing the problem. I'm thinking of
buying a new DVD burner program. Any recommendations which product works
best with MM2?

I'd lean over to the player not being able to read the DVD-R itself. Unless
a DVD player specifically has the DVD-R and RW logos, it's not guaranteed to
be able to play them. The reason I say it's probably down to the player is,
if it's burned on R or RW it will be basically bit-for-bit the identical so
that pushes over to the lens in the player is simply unable to read that
type of disc.

Couple of things to try, burning the disc at a lower speed and using a
different brand of DVD media. If you've got friends with DVD players too,
ask to try it in theirs.

Paul,
Both players have the DVD-R logos. It’s weird that my player with both DVD-R
and DVD-RW logos can only play the DVD-RW version. I have tried Memorex and
Maxell media. Thanks for the tip on the lower speed setting. I’ll try that.

Did you try playing the DVD using the DVD drive in your computer?
If it plays that way as a DVD then the problem must be the player but if it
doesn't then there was likely a problem and the DVD didn't burn properly.
As to your question about what to buy if you decide to buy new DVD authoring
software I have a list of the more popular programs on my website in the
"DVD Programs" section along with links to the authors sites.

All of them with the exception of Nero Vision Express have trial downloads
available so you can decide on your own which you prefer. If everybody in
this NG makes a recommendation on which is best you will get posts listing
every single one of them on my site since everybody has their own
preferences. Personally I prefer the Ulead line of authoring packages and
absolutely can't stand Sonic MyDVD.

The movies play just fine in the DVD drive on my PC. Actually I wasn’t
interested in an authoring program but rather a DVD burning program that
allows importing MM2 files. I like the MM2 authoring program and want to
stick with it. The current MyDVD that I’m using to burn DVDs (that don’t
play on a standalone DVD player) is a stripped and old version that came with
my Dell PC. I was hoping that an upscale DVD burning program may solve my
problems. Any recommendations?

MM2 isn't an authoring program it's an editing program.
A DVD authoring program takes the movies you make in MM2 and allows you to
create DVD menus and clips etc... and burn to a DVD that will play in your
DVD Player.
So what you are calling a DVD burning program is an authoring program so my
recommendation to see the ones on my website still stands. Plus you can
download the free trial versions to see what you think before sticking any
$$ into one of them.
