DV capture

I have a DV camera with TWO separate audio tracks on the tape. Is there a capture utility that will render both audio/music tracks? Setting the camera to play 1, 2 or mix doesn't do it. The firewire connection is only pulling audio track 1 either way.

What we have is DV wedding video with audio on track one and music already on track two. Trying to pull track 2 out via analog sound board and re-digitize/sync is not a workable option.

Hello there,

My camera does something like that, I have not actually used it. I
remember the manual saying that the left audio channel held one track and
the right the other. I can't say whether it actually works or not. I seem to
remember as well that it was only available if the audio was set to 12bit
instead of the usual 16bit.

What does your manual say?

When you play it back on the cam you get both channels playing?
If so, only work around I can think of is to record to a vhs tape, which
will hopefully capture the whole audio, then record it back to the minidv
tape and then capture to pc.

Yes I understand now. You are well outside the capabilities of Movie Maker.

I just checked the help file for a program MovieDV 6 from www.aist.de The help
file as usual is not very clear...but it does talk about separate channels
(mono and stereo) and the program holds eleven audio tracks each of which is
stereo. I took a look because AIST are a post production company for the film
industry (employ around 100 video technicians) They also produce their own High
Tech Codecs.

You might want to contact them. They have several sites including www.aist.de,
www.aist.com & I think www.cinegy.de

I can remember whether they do a trial version...its worth a look.

I am part way into designing a video format converter (long way to go as yet)
But, I can put together a utility that will tell you all about the format of
the captured file (moderately easy), I guess that that idea is no good either
as its the capture that is the issue. As you have my curiosity peaked I will
keep my eye open for something that might help you out.
