Duplicate names?

Have Win2000 Server w/ active directory, this machine is also a PDN. For some
reason now, people are getting messages when logging in saying "A duplicate
name exists on the network"... it doesn't happen every day, but 2 or 3 times
a week to about 5 or 6 different people. I KNOW that there are no duplicate
names on the network... what the heck could cause this to happen all of a
sudden??

A "stale" invalid entry in the hosts listed in DNS or in WINS will cause
this. If you know (or can find out) which "name" is supposed to be
duplicated then manually delete any reference to that name and its
associated IP# in both DNS and WINS. Then the "real" machine will
re-register itself the next time it is booted up and all should be well.
