Dual Boot

Hello,

I would like to use some hardware that works only with windows Me/98.
My idea is to try a dual boot system but my concern is that I have to blow my
windows xp configuration for this. I worked hard to get the system where it
is and unfortunately I see the dual boot system done by adding the other OS
first, then XP. Is it possible to repartition the HD and add the new OS after
XP is already established? The computer is a Compaq notebook.

How do I install Windows 98/Me after I've installed XP?

I would suggest 'shrinking' your XP partition to make room for a (FAT32)
second one. To do this you'll need software such as Partition Magic. (or
there are free Linux alternatives, though they're harder to use)

You then put each OS into its own (primary) partition, and use a bootmanager
to decide which one loads. XOSL is suitable, thought the simplest is that
provided with Ranish partition manager.

Bear in mind that 9x doesn't understand disks larger than 137GB, so if your
disk is larger than that, finding a second, smaller disk might be a better
option. (and avoids the partitioning issue too, of course)

Perhaps I should add that a lot of recent notbooks don't come with drivers
for anything earlier than Win2000; therefore I'd check on this aspect before
spending any time on the project. It would presumably be of no use if Win98
worked only in 640x480 display with no sound, etc!

The above mentioned webpage assumes that Windows XP is installed on drive C:. No support is offered for other drive letters. My problem is slightly different.
I have Win98SE and WinXP Pro already installed on drive C: and D: respectively. But the xp bootloader has been overwritten with the Win98 bootloader as I unknowingly issued the command "sys c:" on booting with the Win98SE boot floppy. Now the system directly boots in Win98SE. Pls. help me restore the xp bootloader and revert back to dual boot menu.
