Dual Boot Question for Oem XP

Hi. I bought a MB with a new 120 gig HD and Win XP OEM version.

Can I simply format the new HD with XP (NTFS or Fat32?), install it, and add
the old primary 60 gig HD as a slave? It has Win98 on it, 1 partition.
Will it dual boot alright? I'm confused because some old posts discuss this
setup---with the new 120 as "C" (plus e & f, after partioning) and the old
drive as "D"---and say it's impossible without a boot manager. I'm not sure
why
that's the case...is it? Upgrading is not an option, since I bought the OEP
version of xp. Thanks!

Hi,

Since it is a lap top there will be some extra utilities
for maintaining the laptop which might not be provided to
you. Consult the manufacturer/reseller from whom you
bought the computer and check if you can make changes to
your computer. This is because most manufacturers disable
booting from the floppy on laptops. Also some warranty
periods are void if you tweak by yourself.

Where on earth did you get that gibberish from? The OP never even MENTIONED
a laptop!
Also there are not many laptops (if any) where you can HAVE two HDDs AFAIK!

You will have to install the XP with the Win98 disk disconnected
(otherwise an OEM will refuse to install). And have the basic partition
for the XP a FAT 32 one - keep that fairly small, say 10GB or under 16
and you can then later make a big NTFS one for data (which the 98 will
not see). Then use the technique Doug Knox has at his page
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm
to set up a dual boot to have the Win98 available

Or if you want the XP on a purely NTFS system (though I would still keep
the basic partition that sort of size) you will need a third party boot
Manager, like BootIT NG, from http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware -
30 day full functional trial) or the Boot Magic that comes with
Partition Magic

To make the second, NTFS, partition for data, go in XP to Control Panel
- Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk Management and look
lower right for the graphic of the drive. R-click in Unallocated space
and Create Partition
