DSL Connection problem

I have had DSL through earthlink for 2 years, the other day I went to get online and was unable to connect through my DSL modem. The internet light does not come on, however, the power and the DSL light are green. The error message I receive is Cannot connect to Broadcom, but the testing all shows that my devices are working properly. Also, indicates that a local area connection is unplugged. I have made sure everything is plugged in correctly. Have even tried different ethernet cables and spent hours on the phone with earthlink, and still have to use my dial up. I am working on a Dell desktop with Windows XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
