drwtsn32.exe

I am unable to open 'my computer' or 'control panel' or 'my documents'. I
get a pop up error about drwtsn32.exe postmortem applications analysis. I do
not have any problem with the internet or other applications (Word, Excel,
etc..). I just can't navigate within my own computer.

Here is the error from the event viewer info:

Faulting application DRWTSN32.EXE, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001295d.

This file "dbghelp.dll" is related to Windows Image Helper. Try the following:
Start>Execute and type this without quotes:
"regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dbghelp.dll"

When I run that I get the following:
bdghelp.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file cannot be registered.

When I try to access 'my computer', I am still getting the drwtsn32.exe error.

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem. When I tried Jose's suggestion on
checking the Windows Image Editor dll, I'm getting the Dr Watson DeBugger
PostMortem error again however.

Let's try the following:
Put your XP CD on the drive.
Start>Execute and type without quotes "cmd". In the new screen type (always without quotes):
"X:" where X is where you have your CD drive. Then type "cd i386" and then "expand drwtsn32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\drwtsn32.exe"
Type "exit" and reboot.

And else:
"expand dbghelp.dll c:\windows\system32\dbghelp.dll.exe"

Then try "regsvr32..."

Hi Jose and thanks for the reply.
Have replaced the 3 files noted. While my problem is not fixed, I am no
longer getting the Dr Watson message so that appears to be a step in the
right direction.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks Ed

I should have mentioned this before. As I mentioned not Dr Watson message.
However, after selecting Windows Explorer or Control Panel there is a wait of
say 2 elapsed minutes and then the screen, in this case the main menu, goes
blank (blue)briefly and looks like it is re-initialized ie. icons
redisplayed, system tray item is re-populated and I'm getting a signon
message displayed re: Norton Anti Virus renewal which redisplays. There are
no messages displayed it just looks like a regular login.

Try this:
Start>Run and type in without the quotes "msconfig". Go to "Services" tab, check "Hide Windows Services" and uncheck the remaining. Go to "startup" tab and uncheck everything. Note that you'll disable your antivirus to load at startup. Reboot. What happens?

Hi,
After making the changes, windows explorer and control panel still do not
start. No messages, just the 're-start' after a 2 minute pause.

I have the exact same problem. I tried everything listed here as well as
spyware removal and virus removal. I am still having the same problems. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try a defragmentation of your Hard Disk. But, think the culprit is your antivirus. Can you completely uninstall it? If this doesn't work, uninstall it again.

hello,

I found this fix today. It worked for me. If you can open internet
expolorer go to the internet options from the toolbar. On the advanced tab
uncheck the enable third party browsers box. I think the problem is still
some sort of spyware. I'm not really qualified to say however. I just know
this fix worked for me.

Great help CC!
Works for me also. I wouldn;t have caught that for awhile. I was convincing
myself it was a graphics problem.
Anyway, thanks again.

Here is the error from the event viewer info:

Faulting application DRWTSN32.EXE, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001295d.

Then type "cd i386" and then "expand drwtsn32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\drwtsn32.exe" also i included the screen shots also this step does not work i also got a error (" cant open output file file: c:\windows\system32\drwtsn32.exe").
