Drive Problem

Friends,

I am using Windows XP with SP2.

As I found 40GB HDD insufficient I bought one 80GB HDD to use it as an
external drive with the help of USB External Casing.

I have installed the whole thing, but in My Computer I cannot see the
drive.

When I go to Device Manager, it shows it as disc drive and working
properly, but I cannot see it in My Computer and hence cannot use it.

I am not a computer savy person and hance I am finding it difficult to
find the problem.

Your help in this regard will be of great help to me.

Thanks.

Windows won't see it until it's formatted..
Go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk
Management and format it from there.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for your suggestions.

As suggested by you I went to Disk Management.

There I was told to initialise the new disk and I did that.

But how do I format the disc.

Because when I right click I am getting following commands:

New Partition
Properties
Help

for other discs the format command is there but for this new disc format
command is absent.

What should I do now?

Regards.

Set up a new partition from there, it will be allocated a drive letter or
you can choose one yourself then format it.
If you want to divide it into 2 or more partitions this is also the place to
do it.
