Drag and drop stopped working after the latest Windows Update

Bogdan

Hi,

I got this annoying problem on XP after automatic update 2 days ago. I can
no longer drag and drop files. That is, I can drag a file over a folder -
which is highlighted - but then nothing happens. I had this problem about a
year ago and it was somehow linked to MSXML4 (unfortunately I do not
remember the details). I'm not sure if this is the same issue again. I do
not have msxml4.dll in my windows\system32 so it must be a different issue.

I'd appreciate _any_ suggestions.
Thanks,
Bogdan

Try using another mouse

Check for stucked keys (usually its the Esc key)

You may have to add a registry entry to re-enable this functionality. If you
have to, backup the key. In regedit, go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet
Settings/Zones/4. If there isn't an entry named 180D, then create a new DWORD
entry named 180D and set the value to 0.

Maybe one of these:

Copy/Paste Problems? Click Start, Run, and enter these lines:

regsvr32 ole32.dll (Press Enter key)
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll (Press Enter key)

Also try Kelly's tweak (you'll find instructions at the top of the
page). You can edit the .reg file if you want to see the two changes made.

Line 233 - Enable Drag and Drop
