Drag and drop files corrupt

Drag and drop files now corrupt. I tried to reallocate 5GB from one volume
to another using Partition Magic 8.0. Worked before a few years ago but this
time the process failed (cleanly). After (during disc check, and before XP
booted) I received disc check errors (~“Invalid file security ID, Resetting
new IDâ€) or something to that effect, and it ripped sequentially through
thousands of numeric values on my d:\. Amazingly, everything started up and
seemed fine. I can copy files fine (ctrl-c, ctrl-v) but dragging and
dropping jpg files somehow looses file integrity. I have to shell out to DOS
to del files. I have backups, so this is NOT a data recovery issue - it's a
"how do I fix my d:\ without reformatting the partition" problem. (I see
other people have had a similar problem (but for unknown reasons). I've done
healthy virus check - nothing found there. Thank you for any info/insight.

I've had my head buried in the sand trying to make the problem magically go
away. No luck with that. I had to reformat the d: partition to fix the
problem. All seems fine now. In the future, before using Partition Magic, I
will toggle the disc properties for indexing, whereby all files on the drive
get touched to change the file properties. Through that I was able to
uncover a few corrupt files and delete them via DOS. Then Partition Magic
worked fine. Strangely a DiscChk did not catch the corrupt files.
