Downloads Stalling In the Middle...Help!

Getting frustrated, cannot find a similar problem on forums.

1. I reinstalled Windows XP Media Center edition after a hard drive crash.
2. Removed Norton with removal tool.
3. Installed Zone Alarm
4. Installed Avast AntiVirus
5. Installed SpyBot w/Tea Timer
6. Cable Internet -- Very fast
Symptom: Whenever I try to download a file, the downloader rips the first
half and then just hangs up at a random point. Sometimes I will cancel the
download and try again and it will work, sometimes not. The same things
happens if I try to download a video, lets say on youtube. If it were a 5
minute video, the bar on the internal player will download half the video in
mere seconds, but then it doesn't download anymore of the video. When the
video catches up it starts to buffer and hangs up. I have unistalled turned
off Avast and Zone Alarm to see if that was the problem. The same thing
seems to happen. My laptop on the same network, works just fine. When it
starts downloading something, it doesn't stop.

This doesn't seem to happen with Windows Automatic updates, just every other
time of download. For example, if I try to download iTunes from Apple, it
will download the first 20MB in no time, and then just hang up. I hope I
have adequately described the problem so that someone could maybe steer me in
the right direction.

Thanks,

Using Internet Explorer ? - Downloads always queue up 1st in the TIF
(Temporary Internet Cache). Once completed the download moves to
the folder destination you choose. I would check both the System and
Profile "Temp" folder locations on the PC and make sure both exist. I
would also create a Downloads folder specifically to hold downloads &
direct the browser to store them there.

I double checked those settings. However the same problem happens using
Firefox as my browser. It happens with downloads, streaming video etc. If I
watch a video on youtube, it will cache half the video almost immediately and
then it just hangs up and never loads anymore of the video. When the player
gets to that point it just says buffering and never plays again. Any
thoughts. Thanks.

Did this happen right after you went to cable? If so, your MTU or other
settings could need to be adjusted. There are programs that will figure
the max MTU. A few sites:

Clean out all your temp and internet cache files and try again...
