Downloading Vista x64 in Vista x86...

Tim Payne

I have Vista x86 Beta 2 up and running (clean install), and now want to grab
the Vista x64 iso for an upcoming new system, so went to
http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/beta2/en/x64/download.htm.

I choose to use the Akamai Download Manager, install the ActiveX control, it
launches, prompts for the Save As... location which I leave at the default
of <my name>\Documents. The file initializes, downloads in about 2 hours (I
monitored the progress right up to 4GB), then, when finished, is nowhere to
be found in my Documents folder.

I start again. Akamai says .iso file already exists, do I want to
overwrite? I confirm the folder location in the Save As... dialog. The
..iso file appears in the dialog, but none of my other folders within
Documents show there.

It's like Akamai is using a phantom Documents folder under my name. Tried
to specify the Downloads folder under my name, the file initialized again
and started to download (estimated 2 hours again), but I don't see the
initialized file in Downloads either. I suspect if I let it finish, the
same issue will happen again.

Where is Akamai putting my download? /dev/null??? lol!

Any others experience this? Thanks...Tim.

Tim, I've created a folder on my C:\ root drive called Downloads. Within the
Downloads folder, I create types of downloads, such as communications, Vista
Beta Stuff, AV, etc. Now, if Akamai will let you browse to the location you
wish, go to 'Vista Beta Stuff' and it'll create its own folder within Vista
Stuff and download into it.

That said, you might want to do a search on your computer for the filename
you downloaded.
