downloaded onlinen db language characters change on import to acce

i download from SPORG (online event registration) using their Excel file
option (only opens in Excel, but seems to actually be CSV file), then (for
expediency) save as Excel file prior to importing into Access db. the
characters appear at website correctly, but after download characters with
accents change, i.e., Haché becomes Haché

any ideas?

It's most likely a character set problem. If what you have is really a
CSV file, cut out Excel and import or link it to Access. As you do so,
click the Advanced button in the import wizard, and try some of the
alternative code page/character sets.

If necessary, rename the file (to .csv or .txt) before importing.
