download problem

Ron

I went to da friends house to download some files because he has a high
speed connection. He is running a P4 machine with WINXP Home Ed. When
you try to download any executable or application file, it adds .url to
the extension name and the file can't be opened after download. He is
using Netscape 7.x as a browser. I assume their is a setting issue but
we haven't been able to lcate it yet. Any ideas? I have tried
accessing the same files and web sites from other computers and don't
have this problem so we are sure it has something to do with his XP or
browser setup. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ron,

Try running Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy - those are two free
programs that detect and remove spyware. Also make sure your friend is
running an antivirus program. Avast and AVG are two good free ones. If
this doesn't help, try a different browser. IE, Opera, or Mozilla.
