download problem persists

I have tried many many things to get Shockwave installed
on my system. Nothing works. I have the executable on my
hard drive, but when I try to actually load it, it freezes
at 1% install. I have tried the stand alone version and
it's no help. I have already run out every virus, data
miner, ad, or spy there could possibly be that's causing
interference.
This is turning out to be "the problem from
hell!" I called Dell (who I got the computer from), and
they suggested reinstalling Windows XP Pro because
according to them, there may have been some corruption in
the original setup that was preventing me from loading
Shockwave. I tried that and still no go. They did say
that known compatability problems exist between some
software programs and Macromedia. I have some 50 programs
loaded to my XP system, so who knows? Trying to find
which one is causing the interference could be like
finding a needle in a haystack!
I tried but could not post the problem to Microsoft direct
because my machine was registered as an oem product, which
they don't allow postings for. All I can do is stick to
this listserv option and hope somebody comes up with an
answer. I even called Macromedia directly. They only gave
me another link to their program download, which did the
exact same thing. Please help if you can. I've posted a
help question to Macromedia's technical desk, but no
answer yet.

You may want to turn off the antivirus and firewall, then
try downloading it.When I tried to download Macromedia,my
firewall stopped it then tried again and the antivirus
stopped it.Shut it off and it downloaded just fine, then
put the AV back up and ran it just to be sure. Also if you
have a spyware program running(like spybot search and
destroy, you may want to turn it off also.)
