I have seen this happen when the "Delivery Location" of your email
is set to a PST that is on a local machine.

In other words, when your Outlook was opened, it may have been
configured to "Deliver" your email FROM the Exchange Server to
a PST on the machine you were connecting from.

Outlook uses what is called System or Default Folders.

To check the "Delivery Location" in OL2003:
Open the TOOLS menu
Select E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
Select VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
then click NEXT
Near the bottom of this window will be a small text box with the title:
"Deliver new e-mail to the following location"

Where is the location set to in that window? PST or Exchange Mailbox?

It may be set to the Exchange Mailbox now, but if you were using a
profile in Outlook that was set for PST previously, then you need to
find the PST with your email, on the machine that it was opened on.

Is it possible that you logged onto another machine and accidentally
set the delivery location to that machine?
