Double Icons on Desktop

N

Norman

I have just converted over from Windows ME to XP. I have
two icons of every installed program including those I
have just recently installed. If I try to delete I get
either the icon is protected or it deletes along with its
twin. I check the desktop folders for both all users and
individual users. It all looks okay. No duplicates.

Thanks,

Norman

I get this sometimes, but when I reboot there's only one icon.

Norman...
I also am experiencing the same problem... I have contact hp and they have no idea what the problem is... HP thought it might have been a virus but that is not the case... System is virus free... I am of the opinion that it might be in the registry, but I am staying away from there until I can find the result..
What a pain in the butt..

Here is the patch to fix the problem.... I tried it and it works...

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsCurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Change CommonDesktop from:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop

To:

CommonDesktop
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
