Dosplay Brightness

The following is an issue neither the PC or Graphics Card Manufacturer have
been able to come up with a Solution.

When my PC start up, initially the Monitor display is very bright...colors
washed out. It looks just like a TV would look if you turned the brightness
Control to its highest setting. To over come this, I have adjusted the Gamma
setting of the Graphic Cards driver all the way to the Negitive setting. So
as my PC Starts up, the display is bright and as soon as the Graphic Card
Software loads....the Gamma setting adjusts the display to a much better
picture. I have never owned a PC\Monitor that Started up with a very bright
Display and needed the Graphic Cards Driver Software to cut down the
brightness. I have tried to adjust the Minitors Controls...and leave the
Graphics Card Gamma nuetral....but come not get a pleasing display. I have
tried a different Brand Monitor (a neighbors Monitor that displayed a
beautiful Picture on his PC)....it also came on very bright....and adjusted
when the Gamma Setting took over. This ruled out the Monitor as the problem.
If I disconnect the Monitor from the PC...and let it do a self test...the
Brightness is great...perfect. When I go into BOIS....the Brightness is
great...its is not bright at all. I think this tells me that when the bootup
process shifts to where the Graphic card runs the Monitor its causing the
Display to be very bright....and as soon as the Graphic Card's Driver Sofware
kicks in.......and the GAMMA settings take over..the picture gets a lot
better. Even the Graphic Card Manufacturer advises I should not need to
adjust the GAMMA setting of their Driver to get an acceptable Picture.
However, they also say if their Graphic Card was defective I simply would not
see anything....or at least a display with lines running thru it.

Any ideas?

Yes. Uninstall the video card and swap it out for a known-working one. If
the replacement card works perfectly with normal gamma settings, you know
the original video card is defective and needs to be replaced. It doesn't
matter what the card mftr.'s tech support told you over the phone; they
aren't looking at it. It's obvious that if another video card works well
that the problem is with the original card.
