Try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this
began. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

If this does not resolve it, when you post back, please tell us with what
applications you are experiencing this problem and whether they are XP
compatible applications, or 9x or even DOS applications.

And remember: XP does NOT recognize DOS programs as DOS
no longer exist beneath the OS.

I'm having the same problem.
16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem
path to the program that you are trying to start or install
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application.
I tried restore- it didnt work. also tried this long command thing ---
( http://pages.prodigy.net/daleharris/xperrors.htm) and that didnt work
either.

I just had a new motherboard put in and I think something is wrong. All the
CDROMs worked before. ( ie. Sims,Casino games etc) Some CD's do install, and
I can burn a CD and listen to music. HELP! Running XP. Thanks

Are you using CD burning software? If yes, have you tried removing the
software and reinstalling it, have you checked for updates for the software
from application manufacturer's website?

Are the applications you are trying to install DOS type applications or just
older Windows 9x applications and are these mostly games?
