I have a software to administering a PBX Nortel, this software uses a dongle
connected in the parallel port, I can install the software but when I run the
software a messages is displayed with the legend "NO Security device is
Connected". I have tried to change the comunication to ECP and Standard
Bidireccional. Anyone can tell me what can i do?

Windows XP doesn't allow software direct access to hardware.
For the program to work, you'll need to check for a Windows XP
update for the Nortel application.
I would hurry, before Cisco purchases them or they quietly close
up shop and return to their Canadian home turf.

Both Win2K and WinXP, like WinNT before them, do not allow any
software applications to directly address hardware resources, such as
serial or parallel ports. This behavior is by design and is one of
the reasons the WinNT family of operating systems is so much more
stable than Win9x. For a hardware security dongle to work on these
operating systems, very specific device drivers must be provided by
the application's manufacturer.

Contact the manufacturer of the application to see if any updates,
patches, or upgrades are available. If the application's manufacturer
will not (or cannot because they no longer exist) provide you with a
patch, new device driver, or product to render this legacy application
Win2K/XP-compatible, you have little choice other than to replace it,
or continue using the OS for which it was designed. Alternatively,
you'll need to acquire a newer version of your application that is
designed specifically for Win2K/XP.

Most of these parallel port dongles for older Windows systems required
drivers to check the dongle that worked in a way that XP simply does
not allow. Contact the authors of the software to ask what they intend
to do about it
