I have a laptop machine that i tested on another domain. When i placed it
back onto its original domain, it is logging on fine, but unable to browse or
use any resources, incl. email. when i tried to rejoin it to the domain, i
get the message domain controller not found. Any ideas?

This could be caused by your PC-based virus scanner
and/or firewall.

Both are turned off. When i delved into the eror msgs. it reported that the
dns servrs might be misnamed, but this is not so. I tried restoring to
earlier config, no luck. I'm trying to avoid reinstalling the entire sys.
Would using control panel to remove and then reinstall the net card be of any
value?

In such cases I usually start at the ground floor:
- Ping the server.
- Map a share on the server.
- Join the machine to the domain.

Removing and re-installing all network components is
an easy option that often fixes problems.

Tried all that, didn't work. I will have to remove the network components I
guess. Would the OS have the drivers stored or would the restore cd be
necessary? The reason i ask is because I don't have access to the restore
media. Its a dell inspiron 600m laptop. Or would a generia Xp Pro cd suffice?

Dude

I uninstalled the network card and re-installed but to no avail. It is still
not finding the dns server. Any ideas?

Have you tried removing the computers account from the domain and setting
the laptop back to a workgroup then reattaching to the domain.
