domain can't access, pathname not found

Hi guys,
we have a user with xp prof laptop, and he is trying to connect to
the domain (pdc server 2003). when he types on run: the domain name and
enters...pathname not found error comes up. I did a nslookup on his laptop,
the dns entry looks fine and working. I tried with Ip address as well run:
and entered the ip of the server ...samething pathname not found. I am able
to ping the server, not a problem there. I turned off his windows firewall,
and checked to see if server serviecs are working and it's. I tried with an
administrator domain account and logged in to his laptop, but still i wasn't
able to connect to the domain and gave me the same error...pathname not found.

windows is fully updated.

Any suggestion would greatly help

what's the system error if using net view \\ip?

Are you using DNS, or NetBIOS name resolution? If the former, is DNS setup
properly on the domain, and is the laptop setup as a DNS client? If the latter,
is NetBT configured consistently? Are firewalls setup properly?

Thanks looks like i am getting somewhere now.

Yes are running dns server, and yes i believe it's running as a dns server
client.

it can't be firewall, since all the computer accessing network are working
fine just this one laptop and everything is inside the network so their
shouldn't be a firewall issue.

An error 53 ("name / resource not found") can have several causes.

DNS configuration, if you're using that for local name resolution, is essential.

You MUST know whether you're using DNS, or NetBT, for name resolution (as
opposed to simply having a DNS server to cache Internet addresses). You MUST
set NetBT consistently on all computers.

other computers on the LAN. The personal firewalls must be properly configured,

You might want to look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from the problem computer and from 2
properly working computers, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article,

System error 53 means connection or firewall issue. Are you sure no other firewall blocking the traffic?
