Does update for Service Pack 2 request personal information?

I have been receiving XP updates automatically for along time. When SP@ tried
to update my system the update tried to send my checking account number to
the update site. Is it normal for updates to send information to the update
site? If so my checking account number just may be the same number or a part
of the number requested by the site. The update site that showed on Norton
privacy program blocking the private infrmation showed the update site to be
hhtp://au.download.windowsupdate.com/******* where ***where a long series of
characters and numbers. Can anyone help me?

Dude you got spyware, hackers mimick real site aol is good
for this one www.shopaol.com/******************** if you
don't cancell this where deducting it from your account
$3,200 worth of stuff, sending out your info, the site has
nothing to do with aol.You should get a spyware scanner
and remove spyware so this won't happen anymore.Ad-Aware
is very good and free, spybot search and destroy is also
good.I would go to www.download.com and get them both
for free, get ad-aware first download it open it up CHECK
for updates then run it when it's finished it'll show you
the spyware found, check all the boxes and delete it,don't
worry it puts everything into a quintine file so if it
removes something you want you can get it back(don't know
why you'ld want to but what the heck,ad-aware,spybot
search and destroy, hijackthis all free from there.also
you should make sure your firewall is on go to the update
page and read up on it,SP2 will help you take care of
that.Good Luck and God Bless.

Mike,

Thanks for the post. I try to very agressive in my lock down on my computer.
I run a hard firewall -Netgear- for my ADSL line, all of the Norton software
-firewall, antivirus, etc- and run Spysweeper for spyware. It was Norton that
notified me my checking account info would not be transmitted until I allowed
the transmission, which I didn't. I try to keep all software up to date. I
will run updates again on all to veify I am truely up to date. It is usually
updated weekly.

Thanks!

There has long been disquiet over the amount of information 'sent home'
during the update process, and speculation over its nature. It seems that
details are sent of *all* software on your computer - not just Microsoft
products. Microsoft have always vehemently denied that any personal data is
taken - you would appear to be the first person to have caught them
red-handed :)
