Does the WPA patch for REPLACE WEP or ADD WPA security feature ?

S

Steve Winograd [MVP]

If I apply the WPA support patch from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=5039EF4A-61E0-4C44-94F0-C25C9DE0ACE9

or the WPA 2 supprt patch from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=662bb74d-e7c1-48d6-95ee-1459234f4483

does WPA REPLACE the existing WEP function or is WPA only added
to the list of available security encryption algorithms?

Can WPA and WPA2 co-exist on the same WinXP installation?
Peter

The patches add WPA or WPA2. WEP is still available. WPA and WPA2
can co-exist on the same WinXP installation.

The WPA support patch is only needed on a computer that runs the
original or Service Pack 1 version of XP. A computer running XP
Service Pack 2 already has WPA support built in. If your computer
doesn't have SP2, I recommend installing SP2 instead of the WPA
support patch.

Before making any change to the operating system, I recommend running
System Restore to create a restore point.
