Does FTP'ing to a FP2003 web cause problems -- seems to?

Why is it that FTP'ing to a site using FP2003 extensions screws up the live
web?

I run MS FP2003. My domain host has the FP extensions installed and
everything works fine.

I have a webcam and I want it to send a photo every 5 minutes to the site.
The application -- Webcam32 does this by FTP'ing the new .jpg image to the
host server every 5 minutes. HOWEVER -- it appears that the FTP function is
screwing up parts of the site.

The first time Webcam32 FTP'ed an image to the site, the hit counter quit
working. I had to ask the host to reset the extensions and I stopped the
webcam. I re-started the webcam, it FTP'ed and the hit counter stopped
working. Reset the extensions, etc., etc.

I gave up and took down the webcam.

I had a similar experience in which I FTP'ed a file instead of publishing it
and we had to delete the entire live web from the host, they deleted my
directory, and reset me from scratch.

Back when I used FP98, I could publish or FTP and everything worked fine.
Now it seems that if I FTP something to the site, it screws up the FP 2003
extensions.

Or am I creating a problem where none exists?

I really want to set up this webcam but it looks as though I can't do it.

Create a subweb / site for uploading via FTP.

When you use FTP to upload or modify content of a site with the FP extensions, you are bypassing the
extensions. The extensions are not aware of any changes to your content when uploaded or modified
outside of FP. FP run-time component will only work when published via FP's http mode.

BTW: There are no FP2003 extensions, only FP2000/FP2000 extensions.

you have to upload via HTTP not FTP
