Documents and Settings, help

Don Williams

I need to delete un-needed files on my C: drive. I think some of them are
holdovers from upgrades, etc.

I have the following under Documents and Settings

Admin
Administrator
All Users
Default User
Don Williams.HULK (That's me and my computer's name)
Guest
LocalService.NT AUTHORITY
NetworkService.NT AUTHORITY

These have some sub-directories that have the same name, but there is no
user log-in for any of them except for me.

Can I delete them, move them, what?

I can probably find a way to show the details of their sub-folders if that
will help.

Thanks,

DAW

They are all built in and necessary on some level except for the one named
admin
Go into Control Panel - System - Advance tab - User Profiles Settings.

You can delete any of the profiles you see there except for Don
Williams.HULK

If you are /that/ desperate for disk space then you should be considering
either a new HDD or archiving some of your data onto DVD/CD. You won't gain
very much disk space at all by removing any of those accounts....

It's not an issue of drive size, I have 7 large hard drives on this box,
using EIDE, SCSI, and SATA interfaces.

The issue is that I run Unix as well as windows and Unix has to be installed
after DOS/Windows, and must start withing the first 1024 virtual cylindars.
That leaves me with just 8 Gb for Win XP Pro.

The bottom line is that any deletion of un-necessary files would represent a
higher percentage gain in the room available on the "C:" drive than you
might think. As it is, the "C:" drive can never be properly defragmented.
It does now have about 24% free space, however there are hundreds of
fragments in the Documents and Settings files and folders.

Thanks for your suggestion, I should have explained the situation in more
detail before.

I just checked the Users setup in the Control Panel and I am the only
registered user. The Guest account is turned off.

So, what folders can I delete, and what about those NT folders?
