I have seen this happen, though I am not sure exactly why.

Rebooting was a good thing to try but, if that didn't work, you can try
this:
Click Start | Run
Type "cmd" (no quotes) and click OK
Type "net stop spooler" (no quotes), press Enter and acknowledge any
warnings.
Type "net start spooler" (no quotes), press Enter

You can use Administrative Tools/Services and stop Print Spooler.
You might get a warning that the Fax Service is stopping also. Go
to Windows\System32\Spool\Printers and delete the two files
associated with the stuck print job. Restart the Printer Spooler
and any other dependent services such as Fax. The Printer icon
might remain in the System Tray with a number for that print job
still waiting but it will disappear the next time you boot. It will
not hold up other print jobs.

I often get this situation when I try to print on my Windows printer
from a Linux printer in the workgroup.
