Do you still pay for software?

Mark,

Could you please e-mail me, as I'm interested in your comments about MS
support and would like to ask you a couple of follow up questions.

Many thanks.

I don't have any experience of MS support, so I don't think I'll be of
much use.

Big companies like vendor support; but for the rest of us, who don't
cough up for support anyway, the issue of support should probably be one
of the last things we worry about.

Amen to all that. Unfortunatly, this group is black or white and nobody
understand well explained, moderated and logical answers like yours. If
you say MS sucks many people will cheer without even thinking why. That
is KOOL. This is the medium level of this group (and unfortunatly, the
medium level of the Internet) today.

Hi,

I'm writing a story about free software...

Two questions;

1) are you actually a journalist by profession and,
2) who is paying for this story?

I reckon at least half my 600 or so programs are freeware.

< snip >

I think I might have more than that but until someone codes a program
that lists all (non compressed) executable (installed ?) programs (NOT
only those in the registry) I don't know. It appears that no freeware
author has been able to code such a program. :-(

Regards, John.

I have not paid for any software on my pc. Although it is not freeware-
it was free for me. Does this count? do I win 5 pounds?
Sorry no - that's prizeware you have and it is therefore OT
and regrettably not allowed in a newsgroup of this level of
purity of purpose.

That made me LOL!

Impossible to avoid payment, unless you support piracy.

M$ still did a fine job with WinXP, notably the multi-lingual
support
and AppLocale. Also, Window$ still have the best games....

Bullshit. The PS2 has the best games, epecially if you can't stand
FPS's and the rest of the lame PC GAMING ilk.

And quite frankly there's nothing like pure PS2 titles like
Grand Turismo 4 under Window$

No idea why that would be funny. I haven't come across a payware
program that can do that either.

I wasn't laughing AT what you wrote.
I was laughing WITH what you wrote because it describes the truth!
