Do you need a specific brand of Router for AOL Broadband?

Hi

I set up a D-Link wirelss modem/router (used this many times in the past)
for a friend's AOL. It seems to work for a week and then DNS error. A reboot
of the router and all ok again.
I have even tried it direct into the hub rather than the wirelss function..
better speed of connection but still problems. Reading other stuff on web it
'seems' AOL (UK) needs a specific type of router (Liinksys?) to use Wireless

Is this correct? Anyone actually using AOL on a router succesfully?

Any advice appreciated

You can configure the PC and router to use a specific DNS or to use the one specified by AOL. If you have problems with automatic configuration you should find the IP address for AOL's DNS and configure your system to use it. I have a D-Link router at home and the firmware is very buggy. You will probably have better luck with Linksys.

Thanks...

from more research it would seem that for AOL (UK anyway) has to have the
MRU set below 13900 as well as the MTU at 1400.. I'm going to try that.

Think about it, my Ex, had AOL and they got a wireless D-Link router for her
lappy and the connection kept dropping and could only be resolved by
re-booting router...It happened at least once a day however, I split up with
her a year ago so didn't see if it was ever resolved, but its not a one off
certainly. It was either D-Link or linksys...no defiantly D-Link
