DO NOT INSTALL SP 2

R

Unless you are a computer programmer. I have had nothing
but problems since installing SP 2

Hi

What kind of problems have you had? Saying not to install SP2 without
giving any details isn't very helpful.

I don't think being a "computer programmer" would help you or anyone.
Coding vs. installing a Service Pack is not a good comparison. All you need
to do is backup your PC, install SP2. If you have problems the first step
is to search the newsgroup, second step is to post in the newsgroup if the
search does not help, third step is to e-mail Microsoft (For Free) with your
problem.

When I click a link in my email to download a file, it
doesn't download anymore. I already have ZoneAlarm Pro on
my computer, so I don't need another firewall, and yet
when I do try to download a file, I get this message to
unblock this website. I don't want this message appearing.
Even when I unblock the website, I still can't download.

I just don't think MS took into consideration that some of
us do not need another firewall in the system and their
firewall has given me nothing but problems. Even though
you can turn off their firewall, doesn't mean that it is
off completely. I can't download files from websites like
I used to. I keep getting this message either keep
blocking or to unblock this website, and even though I
tell it to unblock, I still can't download the file.

I have to agree. I had SP2 installed and it gave me
nothing but errors. Many many illegal operations that I
have not had with SP1. I tried uninstalling SP2 but it
just crashed my computer and I had to backup everything
on my harddrive and reinstall XP. I am not going to
install SP2 again. I am content with SP1.

And I, and many others I know, have had *zero* problems since
installing it.

And just because YOU had problems, the rest of the world should ignore SP2?

You certainly place a lot of importance upon yourself.

Agree. Wait awhile until most (not all the issues though because being that
it's Windows we are talking about, having ALL the issues solved will be
impossible) of the issues, including compatibility issues, are resolved
before installing SP2.

These are not compatability issues. Multiple firewalls will nearly always
interact in strange ways.

You must configure your system. Simple. Do it.

Most folks find that it installs and runs seamlessly with no problems.

Remove ZoneAlarm as it's obselete.
so I don't need another firewall,

Right use the good free one intrinsic to XP and lose ZA.
