DMA to PIO

When i try to set the DMA, on the secondary IDE channel,
it says the settings should be, Transfer Mode DMA if
available and Current Transfer Mode, Ultra Dma mode.

It says to uninstal the secondary IDE channel and it then
restart and it will set to those settings, it resets to
the appropriate DMA settings, and a few minutes later
resets to PIO only.

Why does it do this, and should it do this, especially
when i need the DMA to be running, im running XP Home.
I need the DMA to be running under, Transfer Mode DMA if
available and Current Transfer Mode, Ultra Dma mode.

How do i stop this happening.

I am having same problem, though I've only been dropped
down to UDMA 2.
And, i have read MS Knowledge base article 817472.
Problem is, the Hotfix is not available there; all it
says is to contact MS, which I did just now by email;
awaiting response.
Also, I tried the workaround; it changes not the
situation.
i guess it says to await the next Service Pack for XP.
Does anyone know when SP2 is coming out????????
Help!!!
Thanks in advance; feel free to reply by email.
