Dllcache seems to be corrupted

I tried to run System File Checker from a command prompt
as I usually do. However, this time, it kept asking me
for my original CD. Finally, the process finished. I
rebooted and tried again without the CD - but it kept
asking me for it. Windows HELP says to run sfc /scannow
to restore the DLL Cache (dllcache) - but that's what I
did. There must be another way to restore that file.
What I want to end up with is to be able to run SFC
without the original CD.

.
I would either borrow someones XP CD, or try using a
windows XP service pack 1 CD which is only $9.95 from
Microsoft. Or buy a XP CD on ebay cheap.

I have the identical problem on a brand new WinXPHome machine. I asked the manufacturer about it and was told that one should never run SFC because it will only replace updated system files with old files. I don't believe that is correct and have no solution to your, and my, problem with SFC.
