some system 32/dll file is missing or corrupted...causing constant "hangs"....ugggh!! my cable connection is slower than mollasses ....

How do I reinstall just one or two system files w/out having to do a complete reinstall/restore from the CD's?
I tried to do a "Search" for the missing file (from the built in "search" accessed thru the green "start" button)...but there were no finds.

Run msconfig.exe. On the General tab click Expand File. Specify the name
of the file to expand, the source and the place to save the expanded file.

If you cannot find another *.dll file to expand. Do the following: insert your reinstallation XP cd. Go to
Start/Run/type "cmd" (without quotes) and click OK, then at the blinking cursor type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes and a space between "c" and "/") and press Enter. This will activate XP to do a search of missing or corrupted system files and ask you if you want to replace them

SFC - System File Checker - (SFC /Scannow

/SCANNOW
Scans all protected system files immediately.
/SCANONCE
Scans all protected system files at the next boot.
/SCANBOOT
Scans all protected system files at every boot.
/REVERT
