distribution list select members not alphabetical

When I try to select members for a distribution list, it list some by first
name and some by last name. It actually is only the recently added ones that
are listed by first name. How do I get it to list them all by last name.
(From what I can tellthey are entered the same way in contacts. They are all
set to "file as" last name, first name

"Select Members" in the DL simply displays the Outlook Address Book
interface. That interface abides by whatever sort order you set for the
Outlook address book. If you have set the "File As" field for your sort
order, then that is what you are seeing. Perhaps not all of your Contacts do
have their "File As" field in "Last, First" order. "Last, First" is not an
option for the sort order in the address book view.

Something must have gotten curupted when I transferred my contacts to this
computer, because in any other view the address book sorts correctly. All by
last name. Only when i try to add a member to a distribution list does it
file new ones incorrectly under first name. Is there a way to get it to
resort?

No. You never said these DL's were from a different installation. You cannot
transfer DL's from one installation to another without this type of problem.
DL's only work as designed in their folder of origin.

Ok, thanks. It seemed to work fine until I tried to change it. I think we
will go to a dynamic distribution list using categories like has been
suggested elsewhere.
