Distorted Video Playback

I have a dvd from my church Of A Easter Play I need To Edit the first 4 mins
at the beginning and about 6 mins at the end. I also need to be able to play
it on home dvd players. Here is what I've done so far.

1) I ripped the files to my hard drive, in wmv format, useing a program
called Shrink DVD.
2) I did the editing needed, and saved the file.
3) I burned the file using Nero 7.0

Now to the resulting problem, The video is quite distorted, it is impossible
to see the actors faces. The Audio is fine. It is the video that's the
problem. The orginal dvd plays just fine on my PC. It won't play on my home
player but I can fix that.
I realize the problem is the conversion to WMV from DVD files and back again

Any Ideas?

Is the original ripped video distorted?
If so then you need to try the process again.

If not then what format did you save your video in from Movie Maker?
