Distorted video ethernet/firewire conflicts?

I need some help! plzzz. Using Windows XP Home, computer fitted with
Firewire, Ethernet, M-Audio Sound Card. When trying to capture or play video
from my DV camcorder into any video editing software on my computer, it comes
out distorted. It did'nt use to do this, all I have done to my computer since
then is install an Ethenet card and more memory. I did something the other
day which cured it but I don't know what it was and I can't get it back
again. Does anybody think it's something to do with ethernet/firewire
conflict? I say that, because when I have my ethernet cable disconnected, the
camcorder won't recognize. It's not the camcorder, its not a specific
program, so Im presuming it's something to do with the connection which is
giving me distorted play back.

Any ideas?

I just tried pulling out the firewire cable whilst in the software, when it
was all distorted, plugged it back in while the software was on and now the
pictures clear, very strange?

Well done for sorting your prob and posting details,
I'd just hazzard a guess that perhaps the actual firewire
plugs may not have been fully seated in their sockets?
Or maybe a loose or damaged connection/solder joint
in either your cams 4pin socket or your PC's firewire
card? Fingers crossed all remains functional.

Thanks decoder,

I have yet to check the firewire port to see if it is seated properly, but
come to think of it, i did change the firewire and ethernet cards over when i
got my ethernet as it was refusing to work. Maybe it's my motherboard socket.
I will have a look, and report any findings.
