If you've applied the patch successfully, the entries should be available in the registry with a 0.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/restorealldisplaytabs.reg

It means that the registry edit was not applied successfully. Secondly, a screenshot would be needed. If possible, send to my email id (remove nojunkmails.com from my email id)

Hi Andrew,

i have just updated my graphics drivers to the latest nvidia drivers
when i go to the display properties all the menu items have dissapeared -
Themes, Desktop, Screen Saver etc.
when i open the nvidia display properties from the control panel all the
nvidia options are there, and in hardware properties the graphics card is
installed ok

has anyone encountered a problem like this before
i am using windows xp home edition sp1

any help appreciated

A short time after I updated my NVIDIA drivers, I started to have a somewhat
less severe display problem: changes I made to the system Icons (i.e. "My
Computer", "My Documents", "Recycle Bin" etc.) would not be retained. I
would log off, then log in again and see the default icons instead of the
icons I selected. I have a lot of desktop themes, and I periodically switch
the theme for my account. Other than the icons, every aspect of the desktop
theme (the wallpaper, color scheme, windows style, sounds) is retained
between login sessions. About half of the time that I log in, however, I see
the default icons instead of the icons from my current theme.

Recently, my son downloaded some spyware that added a toolbar to my task
bar. After properly scolding him and spending a weekend getting rid of all
the spyware, I found that I now have the same problem with my task bar: most
of the time, I get the default task bar settings instead of my custom
settings!

I know that this must seem minor compared to the problems usually posted to
this newsgroup, but it would still be nice to fix it. Does anyone know what
registry magic might fix this problem?

If you've applied the patch successfully, the entries should be available in
the registry with a 0.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/restorealldisplaytabs.reg

It means that the registry edit was not applied successfully. Secondly, a
screenshot would be needed. If possible, send to my email id (remove

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Therefore, look in the above locations. Or, export those keys and post it
here.

HKLM denotes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKCU denotes HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Andrew,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
]

In the right-pane, see if anything is assigned a value of 1.
