Display Problems With LCD Monitor

I just bought a 19" LCD monitor and am having problems with some program
windows only showing about 2/3 of the window. Example: In MSWord, I select
PRINT and the print window displays normal. I select Print Preference and
the window only displays 2/3 of the window. The right and bottom third of
the window is chopped off and I can't expand it. The same thing happens in
many of my other programs as well as in some of the Control Panel windows.
This usually happens with one of the sub-windows.

Here are my settings: 1280x1024, 32bit. Monitor refresh rate 70 (choice is
60 or 70). Appearance: Large Font. Under the General Tab I have Large
Size-120DPI selected. I'm using these setting so I can get larger text on the
screen to see better.

Can anyone give me an idea of how to use the larger text settings without
loosing 1/3 of some of the program windows. Thanks. sorry for the long post
but it's hard to describe this problem any shorter.

Mac

P4 2.4gig, 1gig ram, ATI AIW Radeon 8500 128mb, WinXP Hm SP3, all drivers
current.

The main issue is changing the DPI from its default to 120 - change it
back to 96. THEN, on the Apperance tab, select either LARGE or EXTRA
LARGE font size.

It's a long standing issue that many programs do not properly deal w/ a
DPI that's not 96. It's a programming issue going all the way back to Win
3.0; basically they just ass-u-me...

Thanks Frodo,

I changed it back to 96 and everything works fine. I never new LCD monitors
were so different. I guess I have to choose between clear but small text or
large but fuzzy. A big drawback for LCD monitors. Especially for older
folks like me that need the larger text and icons.
