Display adapter problem

Hi,

My display adapter is freaking me out... I have re-installed Windows XP Pro
on my machine and since than the display adapter is not installing the
drivers correctly.

The problem is that the resolution is stuck to 640x480 with 4-bit color
(yuk!!). The funny thing about it is that if I enter windows in safe-mode,
the resolution and colors are good.
Also, if i uninstall the display adapter from the Device manager and reboot
the colors are ok. However, since windows re-installs the drivers
automatically, when i reboot I'm back to 640x480 4bit.

I have tried THREE different graphics cards and ALL have had the same
symptoms. I'm suspecting its something with the AGP port, but i'm not sure.
Please HELP!

regards,

Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete any and all instances of
the video card and drivers, reboot and Windows should install the correct
drivers.

Hi,

I spent the last week doing just that. Windows recognizes the graphics card,
at least the name that it shows is the that of the card.

When i go to safe mode the resolution is fine, i delete the display adapter
from device manager and all its files from the windows and system32 folder
and than reboot to normal mode. When i enter normal mode with the driver
UNINSTALLED the colors are fine there too.

However, windows re-installs the drivers back again and when i reboot the
resolution and colors go back to 640x480 and 4bit.

regards,
