Disk Management locked

When I go to Computer Management --> Disk Management, I get an error message
that it is unable to connect, that "Disk Management is locked." At one point
I got an error 1055. I turned the SP2 firewall off--no help.

What is locked and how do I unlock it?

Hi,

I would check the Event Viewer/System log to see if you have any errors
relating to starting the 'Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service'

Also from the command prompt you can run 'SC querylock' to see if the
service database is locked.

It also might be a service is failing to start for whatever reason.. Check
control panel/administrative tools/services to see if any services are
showing the 'Starting' status.
