Disk I/O Error = 00002000

James

I am trying to install Windows 2K on a new "barebones"
box. The hard drive (30gb, WD) is seen by the BIOS but as
soon as Windows tries to load it gives me the:
Disk I/O Error = 00002000
Failed to ArcRead the boot partition to check for a disk
signature
There is a similar error message with 00008001 but that is
an IDE ZIP which is not the case here.
Anyone had this problem?

Hi James,

This issue can occur if an IDE Zip drive is installed on the primary IDE
channel as the master.

RESOLUTION
==========
To resolve this issue, physically disconnect or remove the Zip drive during
setup. When setup finishes, you can reconnect the Zip drive.

Thanks, but I do not have a ZIP drive in the system. The
only drive attached to the primary IDE is a WD 30gb as
a "single" drive.

For anyone interested: I swapped out the WD 30gb for a
Maxtor 20gb and the problem seems to have been resolved. I
don't know what it was about the WD drive that caused the
problem but at least I can install now.

Hi, I hope it's not to late. But I recently had a similar problem and
after going crazy I've found that the problem was caused by an old
BIOS. After I updated the BIOs I had no problem to install windows
2000 in a new 80 gb hard disk.

Hope it help.
