Try running from cmd prompt, type:CLEANMGR clean up C: 1st,then type:
Defrag C: If CHKDSK C: is still coming up,read kb831426 To eliminate
it....

I am having the identical problem on a Toshiba laptop. It started about two
weeks ago, possibly more. My machine started slowing down and then when I
tried to run defrag I started receiving this same "defrage has detected that
you are scheduled to run checkdisk" message, but I can't run checkdisk. I've
tried the "run checkdisk" at startup choice, but it doesn't help. I don't
think it's actually running checkdisk at startup.

Does anyone have some other ideas?

I'm having an identical problem on a Dell Inspiron 5100. It started about 2
weeks ago. Could this be a virus or some other problem? Defrag worked fine
before then
