Disk Cleanup

In the "Files to delete" section of the Disk Cleanup
dialog box in Windows 2000 there is an option
called "Compress old files". I am confused. Since this
option is under the "Files to delete" section will these
files be deleted? Or, because the option is
called "Compress old files" will the files simply be
compressed? If the latter, how are the files compressed,
and must I do anything special to uncompress them after
they have been compressed?

Thanks for any insight!

The files will be compressed, and will remain available. Decompression is
automatic on access. Note that this only applies to NTFS, not FAT
partitions.

You can also explicitly tell windows to compress files/folders, or an entire
partition. Right click the file/folder/drive that you want to compress, go
to Properties>Advanced. There is an extra box to check if you want
everything below the folder/drive ypou selected to also be compressed.
