Disk Cleanup not working

Disk Cleanup starts saying that "Disk Cleanup is
calculating how much space you will be able to free
on "C". This may take few minutes to complet"
The progress/calculating line starts at about 1/8 of the
way, but it just stays there, no matter how many minutes
I wait. It says "Scaning: compress old files" Can some
one help

I m having the same problem, I thought it might be that
bloody virus again because all my application and
systems software runs very slowly? I would be interested
in a solution
