Disk clean up not working

Matt

When trying to use disk clean up, the small window
showing compressing files appears with 3 bars showing and
clean up stops working. I am then unable to close disk
clean up without using task manager. When pressing
control, alt delete to open task manager it takes several
minutes for the window to open and shows that disk clean
up is using approx 90% of CPU usage and slowing all other
progams down. I have re-installed XP professional but
this has not fixed the problem.

Please help.

This worked for me when MY disk clean up stopped working.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files

On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When prompted to "Confirm Key Delete," click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor.
