Disk checking problem

Hi,

I am using windows xp professional service pack 2. When I start the computer
windows xp welcome screen comes and then a blue screen comes asking for disk
checking,

if I am cancelled the disk checking then it is okay and my windows xp starts
but when I restart it again goes in to the disk checking.

if I does not cancelled disk checking then my system hangs and I have to
restart it.

Pls advise how to resolve this.

Maybe I shouldn't be answering to the Pro version but did you check to see if
you have 'checkdisk' in your startup? That's the only reason it will run
automatically but even then that is after telling you that it will on the
next logon. I use a program called 'Autoruns' as well as 'Starter' and know
everything that is in my startup folder because it can be so annoying when
something just puts itself in there. Actually, the best program is called
'WinPatrol' and it is free. Anytime something tries to put itself in your
startup it warns you and you can either block it or let it do it. I download
these free programs from Snapfiles which is great.

This shouldn't happen unless WinXP detects some sort of problem with
your hard drive or the file system thereon. While there might be a
problem with the OS, it's crucial (if your data is of any importance to
you, that is) to determine the true state of the hard drive before doing
anything else. The hard drive manufacturer should have a free
diagnostic utility available on its web site that you can download and
use to test the hard drive. Back up your data (some hard drive tests
can be destructive of data) and use the manufacturer-provided utility to
determine whether or not the hard drive is defective.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. WinXP will launch Chkdsk automatically
if, upon booting, it detects a problem with the hard drive or file system.
